Our pets are like family so why not incorporate environmental sustainability with our furry friends at home too! Here is a list of sustainable pet products that can make the world a better place for everyone!
#1 Old blankets, towels, and pillows
Instead of buying new bedding for your pets at home, you can reuse products that you no longer need. You can also donate any of these old materials to your local humane society!
#2 Litter
Substitute the clay cat litter you may use with natural products such as pine, recycled paper, or walnuts. These alternatives are biodegradable and better for the environment.
#3 Plush toys
Replace your pet’s plush toys with homemade toys that are sown from old pieces of cloth. Rather than stuffing, use recycled paper or recycled plastic water bottles to fill the inside of the toy.
#4 Collars
Dog and cat collars are often made from leather and nylon webbing. However, the use of hemp, cork, repurposed rope, and organic cotton are more sustainable alternatives.
#5 Food and treats
Pet food is commonly packaged in bags made of plastic and foil however, companies are steering towards the use of paper bags for food and treats. By supporting these companies, it encourages other organizations to become more sustainable as well.
#6 Poop bags
Switch your plastic bags to biodegradable ones! It is very important to clean up after your pet and now you can be sustainable while doing so.
#7 Food bowls
Similar to how we substitute plastic Tupperware for glass, we can do the same with our pets’ bowls! Buy bowls made from recycled glass to incorporate sustainability with durability.
